Class time will begin with the patchwork portion of the quilt center, and then we'll shift our focus to Kim's easy invisible machine appliqué technique. You'll receive tips for sewing accurate patchwork, and all aspects of invisible machine appliqué and design layout will be covered as you learn to use your sewing machine to achieve finished appliqués that look hand stitched. Interlocking Circles with Strips and Curves

Try your hand at free form Strips ‘n Curves.  No acrylic templates in this class. You are thedesignerby simply drawing 3 or more circles and vertical and horizontal lines.  Freezer paper will be used to transfer your design to your strips. This class could be called a surprise course in strip techniques.  You will cover most of Marti’s favorite strip tricks, plus this block has a special twist.  A few years ago, Marti bought an antique quilt that became the inspiration for this class.  You could make the quilt with matching blocks, but you probably won’t want to. It is a charming scrap quilt.  Similar to some autograph blocks. Marti will share that variation also.  As a bonus, Marti shares machine quilting in sections just because her favorite model for this class is quilted in sections. It is the cover quilt on Marti’s newest book Machine Quilting in Sections.  Sewing machine required.

You can do this?  No pivoting no set in seams when you use Klaudeen’s method for easy machine piecing.  Wall quilt measures 23” by 25”.  Choose a feature fabric for the ‘box tops’ (sample shows flowers).  Insure your success by adding a very light or very dark background and two coordinating fabrics for the sides of the ‘box’. You will be surprised when you discover how easy it is to create this illusion, using the color plan and easy straight piecing.  Sewing machine required.

This class is full of information and teaches the way that Charlotte cuts and designs the kits that she uses in other classes.  She will show the tools and methods that she uses, and way she makes color come together.  This is a combination of many classes and things she has learned over the years of quilt making.  This class is made for the intermediate and advanced level quilt maker interested in more creativity that is doable.  The class is full of information, real quilts, and real solutions to everyday problems in quilt making.   A mystery project is started in the class along with the learning of the methods.  Fabric kit is available for $35.  Handout includes many patterns and guidelines to refer to once the class is over; there is a $5 charge for handout.  Sewing machine required.

Cultivate a patchwork meadow when you stitch this color-drenched quilt designed using Kim's collection of Molly's Meadow fabrics for Henry Glass. Class time will begin with a little bit of "stripping" as we touch on the checkerboard blocks featured in the quilt center, and then we'll switch our focus to the simple appliqué setting squares that give these blocks the illusion of being gently curved.  Kim will share all aspects of her invisible machine appliqué technique to help you prepare, layout, and stitch the flowering vines that meander along the outer border.  This sunny project is the perfect class if you're looking for a little variety in your quilting life, even if you've never appliquéd a stitch!  Sewing machine required.

From Jennifer Chiaverini’s novel The Cross Country Quilters, we meet Vinnie Burkholder, one of  the first quilters to attend Elm Creek Quilt Camp.  Vinnie’s Double pinwheel quilt was inspired by a class she took at an ECQ camp.  This 1930’s quilt block, while vibrant and moving, is know by the names Whirligig and Double Pinwheel.  Nancy takes you through a step by step workshop, breaking the block down into quarters and makes piecing this intriguing block a breeze.  Book:  Elm Creek Quilts by Jennifer Chiaverini and Nancy Odom.  Sewing machine required.

Have you ever wanted a Gammil Statler Stitcher?  Wouldn’t you like to try it before you buy it or have questions about the machine?  This is the class you need!  We will put the Gammill and Statler Creative Studio Software through its paces.  This class is led by a Creative Studio Certified Trainer and will be a full demonstration of what this machine will do to make you a better quilter whether you want to go into business or just want control over your own quilting job.  Class will focus on the Creative Studio software and how to place patterns in boundaries, set borders and corners as well as an edge to edge quilting job.  Learn to rubber stamp and divide patterns to get the perfect shape to fit into triangles, circles, or rectangles.  Making a wreath from one pattern element is easy with a right click of the mouse.  Time will also be spent on the maintenance of the machine and how to load a quilt and keep it straight throughout the quilting. Quilting a landscape quilt is different than quilting a traditional quilt.  Remove all thoughts of feathers and crosshatching – you have to think terrain for the quilting to be effective.  Learn how easy it is to determine the appropriate quilting lines based on different terrains and how simply changing the quilting detail can create the illusion that one area is far away while another is closer.  And no, you will not have to relearn your quilting skills – just change a bit how you use those skills.  Workshop fee $20 includes printed background fabric, batting, backing fabric complete as sandwich.  Sewing machine required.
